The article identifies socioeconomic levels in basic statistical areas of Mexico, using clustering methods and neural networks, with high accuracy.
This article seeks to identify the socioeconomic level (SEL) within Mexico’s Basic Statistical Areas (BSA) using a methodology endorsed by the Mexican Association of Market Research Agencies (AMAI) and the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI). Clustering of BSAs is conducted based on variables from the 2010 Population and Housing Census, employing Gaussian mixture models and neural networks to assign SEL labels. The study reveals a distinct SEL representation for each BSA, with an average labeling accuracy of 90.86%.
