We can be thankful for just being human - with all the ups and downs

Being human is accepting all the ups and downs.
As I get older I realize how we are all so alike. How we have similar hopes, joys, fears, disappointments, and sadness. Unfortunately many of us feel like we are alone especially with our not-so-happy feelings and this makes us feel isolated or weird. We feel like we are the only one suffering and that nobody will understand what we are going through. Actually what it all means is – we are afraid to share our common humanity. All our ups and downs, our fears, anxiety, sadness make us only more human. We all want to have a decent life and be happy; at least have more happier moments than sad ones.
We are actually never the only one with any of our feelings. If we can only accept them as part of being human we will have less suffering. We will also have more compassion for others since we will know they are going through their own stuff as well. We all try our best with what we know, what we learned and what we experienced so far. Empathy and acceptance of our own ups and downs will also nourish empathy for others. Once in a while we compare ourselves with others and their life seems so much better than ours, but no matter what, everybody has their own version of their good and bad days.
When I am out and about in traffic or in a crowd somewhere, I sometimes stop and look around; I see people who have own drama in life but everybody is trying their best to live a good life and provide for those they love. We all want the same basic things; lots of love, being safe and to be understood or appreciated by at least one person in our lives. Thinking like this warms my heart and I send them my best wishes from the deepest part of my heart since we all suffer in our own way in this journey we call life. It is so worth going through even the tough times when we know everything comes from just being human. We should not forget that we are actually never alone and we are all connected in some level no matter what we feel. We can just be thankful for being human- even with all the ups and downs.
