You Are Creative: Do You Express It or Repress It?

Creativity is an innate part of being human. We were all born with it. It doesn't just go away. It is either expressed or repressed.
As an Artist and a Creative Coach, I want to share that one of the most harmful limiting beliefs I hear over and over again is, “I’m not creative.” You may think I am just being partial, but let me explain why I believe this is particularly damaging.
We are all born with creativity and creative energy. Absolutely every child expresses this in many ways. For various reasons, many grow up and seem to “grow out” of their creativity. But what we know about energy is that it never just disappears. If you are not expressing it, you are actually repressing it, and to mostly to your own detriment. (Along with the detriment of all of us who would love to experience your creativity!)
What does it mean to express your creativity and what does it mean to repress it?
When you express your creativity, you can feel the energy radiating from your whole being. Your heart feels full, your ideas are flowing and you literally create new things that did not exist before. You are wide open to the flow.
On the other hand, when you repress your creativity, that energy goes inward. Your imagination is now used to create worry, fear and stress. Your heart feels fear. You may feel small, depressed and anxious. After some time, it may bubble up into rage. Your body will begin to show symptoms in the form of chronic pain.
Furthermore, not believing that you are creative also keeps you from living your life in an empowered way. You are always creating your life, but only through embracing your creativity can you do it with intention so that you can make your life a joyful and meaningful experience. If you don’t believe you are creative, you become passive in your own life, a victim to circumstances that further produce evidence that you are not creative.
Meanwhile, evidence of your creativity is just waiting to be seen and harnessed. Even though I have always identified as creative, I am learning to harness my creativity on deeper and deeper levels to literally live happily ever after. Can you imagine if we all did this together?!
