What Is Coaching? Who Is It For?

What does the process look like? Is coaching right for you?
What Is Coaching?
Coaching is a collaborative process that helps you achieve your personal and professional goals by facilitating clarity through self-awareness, self-discovery, brainstorming, strategy, and accountability towards action.
What Does It Do?
COACHING BUILDS SELF-AWARENESS
Coaching builds self-awareness through the use of open-ended questions and active listening. A coach’s job is not to instruct you in the answers, or “mentor” you to do his or her way, but to draw out of you what is already brewing on the inside; to help you discover it, own it, translate it into action steps, and support implementation.
COACHING POINTS TO “TRUE NORTH”
Coaching is about identifying, equipping, and releasing who you are at your core and charting a course that includes doing more of the things that “fit” and less of the things that do not. It’s about finding “True North;” new decisions & new directions.
COACHING RELEASES LATENT POTENTIAL
We all have potential that we’ve not yet discovered, nor fully express. A coach will help you identify latent potential and integrate it into your everyday life. A coach will challenge you toward growth.
COACHING CREATES LASTING CHANGE
Change can be hard to handle. Most of us can lose 20 pounds if we try, but most of us put it right back on too, plus a few more. Lasting change, or transformation, takes time and consistent effort. Coaching is not just about digging in to reach a goal, but developing, supporting, and maintaining new habits and new behaviors as a new way of life.
COACHING BRINGS OUT YOUR BEST
Coaching brings out your best. You are the expert on your life and a coach is trained to support you in living into that. Your desires form the big agenda and you set the agenda for each appointment. A coach will always see and point out your potential, even when you lose sight of it.
Who Is It For?
People like you. People from every possible age, background, and occupation seek coaching, but they all have one thing in common: a desire to achieve something more in their personal or professional lives. Whatever your goals, a coach can help you find the clarity, strategy, and accountability to keep you focused and taking action from week to week.
Why Use A Coach?
One of the most common reasons people seek coaching is the feeling of being “stuck” or “off course” in life, careers, or relationships. Some are seeking balance, purpose, or fulfillment. Some want to be able to answer, “Of all the good things I could do, what’s the best thing?” Others are looking to make a good thing even better. But, the list really is as endless as the individuals. Here are some common reasons that motivate people to use a coach:
To discover life purpose and core values.
To identify and leverage learned skills, natural abilities, and gifts; to determine “best fit” career options.
To improve relationships.
To navigate life transitions.
To reduce stress levels and find greater work/life balance.
To discern “what’s next?” when lacking direction.
To learn new skills or master existing skills; to maximize potential.
To set better goals and reach them faster.
To take on new things while letting old things go.
To communicate more effectively.
To live more authentically with self and others.
To be more accountable.
To have a collaborative partner; we rarely find clarity alone.
To develop and maintain spiritual health.
To sustain change and reach transformation; a new way of life.
In each case, a coach can help you move forward in a positive way, while overcoming patterns of self-limiting belief and counter-productive behavior, while producing powerful and lasting change.
