Are You Faking It?

How to make writing easier, working fun, and your ideal peeps flock to you.
Ok, stop what you’re doing. Unless it’s reading…keep doing that. We good? Cool. Stop whatever ELSE you’re doing and get clear with me for a second. Think about the life you’re living. Think about the job you have, the people you hang out with, the way you act, the music you listen to, the TV you watch, what you believe in….
…and think about this: Are you being you? Or are you faking it?
As an actress, I frequently (and easily) let myself be consumed with different characters. I let myself wholeheartedly believe that I am totally into whatever the character is all about. As humans we do that ALL THE TIME in real life, too. At least I do, did…dud. We take bits and pieces of other people and try to fit into certain molds. That guy is such a badass…I’m going to listen to the music he listens to. That girl is so freakin’ cute… I’m going to wear what she wears. That business owner is so successful….I’m going to talk the way she talks and go to the events she attends.
It all makes sense in theory- taking the best of other people to make the best you. Sure. I get it. I do. But how does it make you feel? Do you feel like things are a little bit harder to do? Is it hard to find new music, pick out clothes, or write a blog post when you are trying to fit into what someone else is all about? Hell yes it’s hard!
So here’s the deal. It’s not about being different. Or alike. If you like the same music as someone else, that’s AWESOME. (Hell- It gives me people to hang out with who will actually enjoying listening to John Lennon faintly whistle and hum the beginnings of what becomes Strawberry Fields. I mean, someone who listens to that alone is a freaking loser, right? Ha.) Seriously- It’s not about being unique or rebellious or contrary. It’s about being comfortable being yourself. Be inspired by others. If something truly speaks to you, incorporate it in your life, but don’t feel like you have to fit someone else’s exact mold.
Once you stop trying to be what you or anyone else thinks you should be, life gets a LOT easier and MUCH more enjoyable. Writing your blog posts will be a breeze, you will find your PERFECT freakin’ career path, your ideal peeps will flock to you, and the money will start rolling in- I swear. It’s unreal.
Don’t know who you are? That’s ok, too. Take some time to notice what your natural tendencies are. Maybe even confide in some trusted friends. Often they can see what you don’t. Stop stressin’. Be you. Whoever that may be, is awesome.
