Empower Before Replace: 10-steps for People Focused AI

As a non-techy but quick adopter, AI has really consumed me lately. It’s increasingly becoming a hot topic in client discussions around productivity, and more-and-more we believe it’s important that ‘people’ be at the forefront of these conversations.
Instead of starting with the technology itself, we should start by exploring how it can empower individuals to work faster and more accurately in service of customers. This would encourage a broad growth mindset around AI and a shift from the fixed mindset that leads to the fear of job loss and Neo-Luddism.
Here are 10 steps for integrating generative AI that comes from our rapidly evolving journey to help clients explore AI as a tool to improve organizational performance through people:
1) Identify – roles that perform cognitive tasks (write, analyze, design, program, etc.)
2) Inventory – the routine cognitive tasks performed
3) Illustrate – specify how AI would help these cognitive tasks
4) Rank – the cognitive tasks most helped by AI based on speed and accuracy
5) Apply – productivity KPI’s to use during measurement
6) Prioritize – develop an AI ROI algorithm for each task and determine best implementation
7) Describe – the way in which AI and the roles will interact
8) Impose – In-context learning boundaries for your AI to safeguard accuracy
9) Launch – using an Agile method (train, pilot, iterate, train, rollout, iterate …)
10) Measure – against KPI’s and identify learnings
Let’s shift the conversation from what AI can take from us, to how it can empower us to increase customer satisfaction without increasing cost and ultimately price.
