Shifting from the default of frenzy to calm

We can choose how we move through our days.
In the world of work there is a deeply destructive conflation of a state of panic with project importance, humorlessness with commitment, and hair-on-fire urgency with efficacy.
We believe that to demonstrate our care for our work, our teams, and our companies’ success, we need to show up in a state of crisis. Anything less is a sign of lazy disloyalty.
The false narrative is that there are two ways of experiencing work: all in or checked out.
It’s a lie.
It’s a lie that is making us miserable and ill. When we allow ourselves to, we know this. We know it in our bellies, in our bones.
What if, just maybe, there are more than these two options available to us?
Those who have witnessed EMTs at the scene of an emergency have seen what is possible: calm, intentional decision making and action in the context of very real life-and-death danger.
The shift away from the default setting of frenzy to one closer to calm isn’t easy, linear, or quick. Your path will be your own, if you decide to take it.
It’s worth it. You are worth it.
