Does thinking of retirement fill you with dread? Prepare yourself for retirement.
Do you have anxiety about what you will say when asked “What do you do?” when you meet someone new?
Start with considering who you are right now using the next ten prompt areas.
Growing your inner self (Spirit):
1. Meaning – What makes me angry? What keeps you up at night when you are not thinking about work? What are you feeling called to do yet you are not making time to do?
2. Purpose – When you are not at work, what do you love doing? Who are you outside of work? How many hours a day do you spend thinking about and doing work?
3. Let go – Who do you need to forgive? Who do you need to apologize too? What are the stories you keep telling yourself that limits you?
Growing your mind:
4. Curiosity – How many non-work things are you learning? Cultivate curiosity in yourself and others. You may have thought that you no longer needed or wanted to go to school. Yet learning can be more fun when you are not focused on the grade. What are you curious about yet have not made time for: painting, singing, rock climbing, etc.?
5. Laughter – How frequently do you laugh? Is it a chuckle or a big belly laugh? What do you find funny? How frequently do you laugh each day? How do find humor in your life? How are you finding humor at yourself and situations?
Growing your support network:
6. Family – What type of relationship do you have with your family? Who depends on you? Who can you depend on? How does your family/significant other support you? How do you support them?
7. Friends– Who are your friends and social connections? How many are outside of your work/professional life? How deep are those relationships? Do you have conversations and support each other about more than just work?
8. Social – What do you do for fun? What gets you out of the house and engaging with others, nature, etc.?
Growing your outer self (body):
9. Health – How is your health? What do you do to move, strengthen, and improve flexibility of your body? How are your eating habits? How many hours of sleep do you get a night? What is your stress level?
10. Hobbies – What are the things you do without the intent of making money from them? What are the activities you want to learn – just because?
