What do you do when you get overwhelmed?

How can I help you... read/scroll till end
I’m writing this article on the third day that I am down with fever, the fever actually has subsided a little bit but I still feel quite sick.
I kept thinking about when will this get over with. For the past three days, I have been lying on the bed sleeping and taking Actifast to get the fever down a little bit.
I’m getting better today and as I’m looking at the side of my bed, I see these two baskets full of clean laundry. And I feel like I need to somehow fold the laundry and help my husband who has been truly helping me for the past three days with the kids and cooking and cleaning the house.
I tried to fold the laundry by myself with a slight fever at 37.4 deg. After the first few clothes, I stopped and I call my husband I told him that I’d tried to fold the laundry, but then I get overwhelmed.
My husband came up with a perfect sentence that would eventually help me to finish folding the laundry that day.
He said that to make this happen, you have to divide it into smaller categories. Let’s divide the clothing according to which clothes belong to whom.
And then he started to sort the clothes into five categories for five members in this house; my husband and me, and our three little kids.
I remember thinking that I only want to fold my own clothing because I have been having a hard time finding things to wear with this pile for the past three days.
And I really need to wear something to go to the clinic this evening.
So there I was folding my own clothes and hanging the clothes into my wardrobe…. and I’d started to feel good seeing how cleaner my bedroom has become and looking at the line of clothes that I have. I feel grateful.
Although I never talked about material possessions to relate to our motivation to achieve success, having gratitude for the blessings in the form of material acquirement helps me to get me back up when things get hard.
For just a quick moment there, I felt motivated again. Because I started to look forward to wearing these clothes and getting out of the house when I get better. Inshallah.
So what happened then is that, I continued folding the next category and then the next and then next until everything finished in just a short amount of time.
This also applies to whatever things overwhelm you. You can take a break from it for a little while, move out from the situation and look at it from a different perspective. Then look at it with a strategy to get it done, in the shortest amount of time that you have. JUST GET IT DONE! With whatever capacity that you have.
Start taking the smallest step chunking it down into manageable tasks that you can accomplish within a very short amount of time. This applies to any project any goals that you have in your life.
This simple act of folding my laundry today help me to get back on my feet again.
For the first time at 3 pm today, I take a bath, put on a nicer cloth, and open my laptop.
This morning I was thinking about canceling my coaching session with a client tomorrow, but now, after having a new sense of “I can do it if I put my mind on it!” I planned on holding the coaching session, as usual, and also writing this newsletter to share my insights with you.
Getting back up even on my hardest day…
This is what it means to live a purpose-driven productive life.
This is what it means to have a career that you are passionate about, that drives you to jump out of bed every single day!
This is what it means to have an internal drive pushing and motivating you even on your hardest day.
As I’ve mentioned in my last e-mail, your main motivation may come from your biggest discomfort, and for me, my biggest discomfort is “Not being useful in this world”… in other words, “Being useless”.
It’s more than about making more money, It’s about making an impact in this world, and making a change that lasts, even when you are gone.
Here is a way I can help you to create an impact in your own world, no matter how big or small it may be.
