Introverts have some unique strengths. If identified, nurtured and used effectively, they can be an invaluable resource for their career development
We live in an extrovert’s world. From our childhood, we are taught to be outspoken, to perform and shine in a group. In a corporate world, a leader needs to have the ability to inspire others, often with their oratory skills.
When introverts see themselves as misfits, it is hardly surprising that they are perceived as misfits for leadership positions in the corporate world.
Who are Introverts?
Introverts are those who gain their energy by spending time in solitude, while extroverts gain their energy by being with people.
Here are some strengths of Introverts, which can be nurtured to aid with career development and promotions in their jobs.
1. Deep Thinking
The practice of spending time in solitude gives Introverts time to absorb information and reflect on it. In this unbalanced world, these are critical traits to have. So introverts should build on this strength to hone their skills of decision-making and strategic planning.
2. Deeper Relationships
Introverts are fairly independent people as they do not need to be surrounded by a large group of friends. The limited relationships they build are deep rooted. This strength can be utilised to create a loyal network of followers. Networking, which is not something that introverts love, can be smartly done by building deeper relationships
This will help them in building strong teams and value-enhancing relationships with customers and other stakeholders.
3. Observant
Since Introverts are naturally slow to speak and react, it gives them a lot of time to observe people and situations. This strength can be effective used in various meetings, brainstorming sessions and introverts can provide an assessment/insight that may not be as obvious to many others. This strength of being observant will help introverts to think outside the box and come up with innovative solutions to tough problems.
Introverts, here is a strong message for you. You have it in you to become strong leaders. You have it in you to be promoted to senior leadership positions. The world has seen many such examples of introverts becoming leaders like; Mark Zuckerberg, Marissa Mayer, Bill Gates, Steve Wozniak, Warren Buffet and Mahatma Gandhi.
So rise and shine. Awaken the leader in you. The world needs more introvert leaders like you.
