When thinking about your personal goals, look at what will provide happiness, fulfillment or a sense of accomplishment.
Ask yourself questions such as:

Family
The goals you set for family should bewhat all members of the family want to achieve and have agree upon. Unless you are setting goals on your parenting. It will be hard to set out and achieve any of the family goals that other family members don’t buy in too.
Ask yourself questions such as:
What are the financial needs for the whole family for you to pursue individual goals or desires?
What does maintaining the health of all family member look like?
What do you want from your family home?
What would you like the relationship to be like between family members?
How can you encourage the highest level of education for your children?
How can you encourage the highest level of education for your children?
What do you need to for responsible and productive happy children?
What does the communication in your family look like?
What does being a family feel like to you?
Business
For more of us, having and running a business is driven by our desires to fuliful goals. Ambitions that are deeply rooted in our personal and family lives. So whilst setting business goals should be the final step. It will continue on an ongoing basis. Used more as leverage, needed to achieve your overall business strategy and the personal and family goals you have set. Review the goals you have created from the previous two areas. Ask yourself questions based around what you require your business to do in order to help you achieve these.
Ask yourself questions such as:
What level of revenues and profit do you require the business to make?
How do you wish your business to conduct itself?
What amount of time do you want your business to take from your personal/family life?
What new challenges would you like the business to undertake in the coming year?
What are the businesses priorities?
Where would you like the business to be in the next 12 months, 3, 5 and 10 years?
What long terms goals do you already have? What are the short term goals you can set that feed into these?
What areas of the business do you most enjoy?
What areas of the business do you least enjoy?
Where is the business at right now? What is the reality?
Once you begin to find answers to these types of questions. It will quickly become clear what goals you need to set for each and how each can support the other. When aligned, achieving goals in that support your business and family will becoming increasingly easy to obtain. If you’re finding it hard to reach one, review what’s going on in the other areas. As there will likely be an obstacle that is directly linked.
The other key piece of information you need to set goals you can achieve in all areas. Is to ensure they are SMART. This means that as you chose and set each one ask yourself; Is it Specific. Can it be measured. Is it action orientated. What is the timeframe you have set to achieved this. This final element will ensure that you have planned goals, which you can track, monitor and ultimately achieve. With a clear understanding and direction on what you need to do in order to get there.
Make Setting Your Goals a Priority
As I outlined, you must start first with your personal goals, then your family before finally setting your business goals. I would advise blocking out a solid period of time. Perhaps a morning or afternoon. Make sue to free yourself of all distractions in order to focus on this and complete all areas. Only then will you know; that the actions you are taking each day are having in impact on what you really want to achieve.
Once Complete; you are ready to break these down into daily actions that offer consistent forward movement towards them. You will have moved from a position of not know what you should be working on. Follow this process repeatedly and you’ll find that overtime; goal setting will become a way of like and no longer so daunting!
