Simplifying your life through tiny living (Part 7)...The magical parts of tiny

This section explore the magical parts of living tiny
For the few flaws I just went through, there are three particularly magical things about living in
a tiny house. If you are going to make the build, I would HIGHLY suggest you use a metal
roof! Why? Well, for one, it going to be a lot easier to replace. It will last MUCH longer than
standard roofs. But the REAL reason you should go metal…THE RAIN! When it rains, the
sound is absolutely nothing short of magical! Its almost hypnotizing, trance inducing. If you’re
lucky enough to have a really heavy rain cell come through that lasts for an hour or two, you
can stop whatever you’re doing if only for a few minutes, close your eyes and listen to the
melody of the rain hitting your wondrous roof. Its absolutely incredible! Next on the list, the
wind. There’s something magical about being in a tiny (cozy) space that most people might
think should “be easily blown over,” and your house doesn’t move. This is a quick opportunity
to mention this lovely little tip, if you’re going to build it yourself. We alternated putting steal
rods and steel cables every foot throughout the perimeter of the structure. These are actually
welded through the floor and into the foundation of the trailer. I bring this up because if you’re
going to be traveling with your structure, its important to reinforce in some way because you
will be exposing your home to hurricane force winds traveling down the highway. Its not
something we think about in our cars. But if you make the effort, you too will also be able to
listen to wind gusts with confidence that your home is going to need more than a 70 mph wind
gust to take your house to munchkin land. The last magical thing I love about living tiny, is
the snow. The rain, you listen to. The wind, you feel and listen to. But the snow is just a little
more spectacular when you’re living in a tiny house. I think its about the sensation that you’re
cozy on the couch with a cup of tea and book watching the snowfall. Its that cabin fantasy that
we all envision in our minds when somebody describes that “winter mountain cabin getaway.”
Its just extra cozy!
I do want to also talk about a man made magical part of MY house. Yes its magical that I
have climbing holds all over the house. Yes its magical that I can quite literally start on the
couch, climb all the way around the outside of the house, come back in the door and make a
lap around in the inside perimeter without ever touching the “hot lava” floor. Yes that’s all
magical! But the real man made magic of this house is the surround sound system! There
are speakers in each of the corners, including in the kitchen, the loft and even in the shower!
When you live in a space this small, you don’t need a HUGE system, but surround sound in a
space this small just sucks you into whatever you’re listening to! Highly recommend that you
wire some version of this in your own tiny home!
