2020 Vision

If you are ready to live more intentionally, here are some steps to get your started.
The first month of 2020 is officially over, and we are now into February!
I’m wondering, are you on track with your goals?
Or I guess I should first ask, have you developed clear goals for the year?
If your answer is “yes” and you are on track, good for you! That’s awesome!
However, if you haven’t done so yet, I would like to offer you some thoughts on this subject.
At a workshop I recently hosted, 2020 Vision, I spoke with participants about the importance of having a precise vision of what they want to create for their themselves this year. This may seem obvious, but I am surprised at how many people move through life, waiting to see what lands in their lap, and then complaining when they aren’t feeling happy or fulfilled.
You only have this one precious life, and so it’s rather important to fill it with what lights you up, right?
So, if you are ready to live more intentionally, here are some steps to get you started…
The first step is to think about what you would IDEALLY like your life to look like by this time next year.
Consider each of the following categories for inspiration: Health, Relationships, Work, Money, Fun, Personal Development, and Community.
Once you’ve taken some time to think about what you want, the second step is to write out your thoughts in detail. The more specific you can be, the better! Take the time to do this for real, it’s important!
And don’t worry about the HOW, because this is what trips most people up. I can’t emphasize this enough!
A client recently told me that once she stopped worrying about HOW she would be able to accomplish her goals and focused rather on WHAT she truly wanted, she took the limits off her dreams and really began to see all that is possible for her life.
Remember, it’s our mind’s job to keep us safely tucked inside our comfort zone. And one way it does that is by giving us thoughts like “I don’t know how” and “someone like me can’t do that” and “that’s too risky”. These thoughts can keep us stuck and spinning for years! However, once we shift our mindset, options and possibilities can appear right before our eyes, clear as day.
The third step is to create one main goal for each of the categories you’ve written about. This will be your guide for the rest of the year.
This is your Vision Plan.
Then, starting tomorrow morning and every morning that follows, create three intentions that you will accomplish that day that are non-negotiable.
For instance, if your health goal is to run a marathon by the end of the year, one of your daily intentions might be to run one-mile on Monday.
And, if your fun goal is to take three vacations this year, another of your daily intentions on Monday might be to research travel packages to Europe.
As you might imagine, if you set three intentions every day based on your Vision Plan and accomplish them, your life will begin to unfold purposefully in the directions of your dreams.
Finally, the last step is often an overlooked tool that is available to all of us – visualization. You see, our minds do not know the difference between visualizing something or actually experiencing it, and so visualization can absolutely prime you towards achieving your dreams.
Not only does this visualization help you to feel familiar with what you are wanting so it doesn’t feel out of reach, but it also helps you to recognize opportunities when they are available to you. After all, why would you accept an opportunity or even see it, if you think what you are wanting isn’t possible?
I have witnessed the magic of visualization countless times while working with my clients and also in my own life. It’s so fun!
So, when I say that I spend my morning walks setting my intentions for the day, this is exactly what I am doing. I love starting each day feeling inspired, energized and focused on my goals!
I know when some folks think about goal-setting, they believe it is something they have to force themselves to do. Like, if it’s not a struggle, then it’s not a worthy endeavor.
And then, it’s no wonder that they procrastinate or quit working on their goals altogether soon after they begin. I mean, who wants to go through life “forcing” themselves into action and struggling?
I hope you try my process and love it as much as I do!
Remember, you get to decide the course of your life.
So why not set yourself up to enjoy your days and move intentionally towards your dreams?
