What is your dream and will you achieve it in your lifetime?
A dream is an inspiring picture of the future that energizes your mind, will, and emotions.
There are 5 common reasons for not identifying your dreams:
Disappointment
Discouragement
Settling
Lack of Confidence
Lack of Imagination
All of these emotions and beliefs are obstacles that stop you from seeing your dreams.
“Deep into the darkness peering, long I stood there, wondering, fearing, doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before.”
~Edgar Allen Poe
The following are 10 steps to help you identify your dreams:
Ownership Clarity Reality Passion Pathway People Cost Tenacity Fulfillment SignificanceIn this article, we’ll go over ownership & cost.
Ownership:
Are you living your dream or the dream someone else has for you?
Have you heard, “You should be a _____”, or have you ever thought, “I always wanted to be a ____ but my parents wanted me to be a ____ and I didn’t want to disappoint them.”?
Take Ownership of Your Dream.
It’s time for you to bet on yourself. Don’t compare yourself to what anyone else is doing. Sometimes you’re ahead, sometimes you’re behind. That’s ok. Stay focused on what you’re doing. Lead your life by following your intuition, doing what you love doing. Keep believing in that vision and always remember why you had the vision in the first place. This is YOUR DREAM. Own it.
What if you had zero limits?
Once you take ownership of your dream, it’s amazing how commitment just comes naturally. What is the level of your commitment right now? What if you knew you couldn’t fail? The first step forward in being able to answer these questions is to take ownership of your dream and sprint forward.
There is a big price to pay for pursuing a dream, and I’m not talking dollars and cents because that is the easy part. Are you willing to pay the price for your dream? Do you avoid the question? The cost? Are you avoiding your dream completely? The dream is free, but the journey isn’t. The price must be paid sooner than you think. It’s also higher than you think and it definitely will be paid more than once. However, the price of not trying is much higher and a pain that will last a lifetime.
Cost:
What kinds of costs will you have to pay?
-time with family and friends
-dealing with criticism from people who matter
-the price for overcoming fear
-the price of hard work
But what is your dream worth to you? Think it through and count the cost. Have you considered the price you’re going to pay and what you’re willing to pay? Are you prepared for the cost? The bigger the dream, the higher the cost. Have you been honest with yourself and do you really understand what it’s going to take to achieve?
When you get to the point where you know deep in your soul what your dream is, don’t leave it to chance!
It’s one thing to have a dream and another thing to do what’s required to achieve it. Make a list of the costs, then begin to engage in the process. Is it worth it to you?
Here’s what I want you to do this week:
