A Masteries Coach

The International Association of Coaching (www.certifiedcoach.org) was born out of the passion of Thomas Leonard, Founder of Coachville & 9 Masteries.
The 9 Masteries is the philosophy and approach behind the rise of the International Association of Coaching as a force to be reckoned with in the industry of Coaching accreditation and licensing. The IAC Mastery Coach is expected to embody the 9 Masteries. When you meet an IAC Mastery Coach, you should experience these 9 Masteries in action during the session.

In this article, I show how the 9 Masteries are embedded into every coaching session. The 9 Masteries does not have any particular sequence. They are a fabric of knowledge, understanding and skill sets interwoven with masterfully by the IAC Mastery Coach to help the Client move progressively towards the outcomes the Client themselves set.
The 9 Masteries are listed below for quick reference:
- Establishing and maintaining a relationship of trust
- Perceiving, affirming and expanding the client’s potential
- Engaged Listening
- Processing in the present
- Expressing
- Clarifying
- Helping the client set and keep clear intentions
- Inviting possibilities
- Helping the client to create and use support systems and structures
As you can see, all 9 Masteries ought to be experienced by the Client in any session. Perhaps Mastery #1 may be more prominent in the first session, however, note that Mastery #1 states “and maintaining”. And trust is hard to earn, and easily lost. The IAC Mastery Coach is diligent to continue to build trust all throughout the sessions so that all the rest of the Masteries have a solid foundation upon which to build sustainable solutions co-created by Coach and Client together.
Certified Mastery Coach and Master Mastery Coach credentials ensure that a high standard is always maintained for the IAC Mastery coach.
Having coached clients from different age groups, ethnicity and professions, I am fascinated that the Masteries are applicable nevertheless.
