"We all have these transformational capacities within us, and treasures that need to be unlocked to become more resourceful."
Lately I’ve particularly enjoyed listening to podcasts on my portable speaker while I carry on various chores in the house. But it is even nicer to listen to short stories or podcast series when I work out. I close my eyes and I focus on the voice of the narrator or the protagonists, as my body remains in movement and provides fuel for my thoughts. In my ongoing search for cool channels to subscribe to, I stumbled upon “The Bright sessions”, a science fiction podcast that follows a group of therapy clients with supernatural powers.
- If you too want to listen to this show, don’t worry, there won’t be any spoiler in my post!! **
Let me explain.
“My coaching clients have superpowers!”
Powers like time traveling or being an empath may be amplified for science fiction purposes but what is at the core of these abilities refer to some very real patterns. Some people may get so stuck in revisiting past experiences that they can’t appreciate how their personal story led them to this present moment – one they should live and embrace fully. And other people care so much about others’ feelings and opinions that they can lose perspective on what matters most to them and what they can actually feel and want for themselves. Various small fears and inherited beliefs contribute to getting a client stuck overtime and often unable to move on to a brighter future and connect to their vision. In coaching sessions, we explore together these beliefs, we flesh them out, we recognize them for what they are. In other words, we call them out.
In “The Bright sessions”, clients are able to see how their sometime hindering supernatural ability can be controlled and transformed into something positive. They turn the feeling of an overwhelming burden into the realization of a unique gift.
We all have these transformational capacities within us,
and we all have treasures that need to be unlocked to become more resourceful and succeed in our projects.
The first step to tap into our own creative potential is to learn to acknowledge our own emotions and thoughts. Recognizing patterns that prevent you to connect more strongly to your vision will help you shift from a mindset of “I am powerless” to one of “I am in control". Feeling empowered and active, you can then start turning to what really is in your control instead of focusing on what others’ responsibilities are.
This is what mindfulness is about and what I discussed in my previous blog post there. Similarly to Dr Bright, your coach acts as a “revealer”, a mirror to who you are by asking you powerful questions that will shift your gaze and your mindset. Your coach can be a great partner and guide when using mindfulness techniques, with tools ranging from visualizations to meditation and affirmation art.
Now I am curious…
What is your superpower? And what will you do to optimize your talents?
