A Mindset for Optimization

Webster's defines optimization as an act, process, or methodology of making something as fully functional or effective as possible.
As a business leader, you must continually ask yourself, “how can we optimize and maximize results”.
Optimization is all about getting greater productivity, performance and profitability from ideas, assets, knowledge, systems, processes, people and opportunities. Avoid status quo…you are better than that!
Think about where optimization opportunities may be hiding in your business…they are everywhere. Use your creative intelligence…and that of the people around you…as an extraordinary source of ideas and solutions to increase sales, customer satisfaction, profits, performance and quality.
Optimization is about freeing yourself and your organization from the “we’ve always done it this way” attitude, and defining and establishing your own industry standards.
Just as the leverage of a tire jack can lift the tremendous weight of a car, so too can the strategy of optimization help you significantly lift your company’s performance levels.
Where are there optimization opportunities in your organization? To get started, ask the following types of questions:
- What is the best and highest use of our time, talents and resources?
- What resources (systems, processes, people) are we underutilizing?
- Which strategies have worked in the past; which have we overlooked; which have we depended on for too long?
- What past or current relationships could we leverage (i.e. customers, employees, vendors, advisers)?
- Where are the hidden opportunities with our current relationships: employees, vendors, business partners, customers, competitors?
- What improvement opportunities for our customers should we pursue first?
Expand your mindset for optimization…and leave the status quo and your competition behind.
