Strategic thinking is required when figuring out the best way to present your experience given timeline gaps. Here are some suggestions ->
If you have gaps in your resume you must be very strategic when writing it to ensure the reader looks beyond your work gaps and sees your true potential.
Many clients of mine are very worried about gaps in their timeline but as we start talking they realize that studies and volunteer work are acceptable ways of showing your contributions and actually filling the gaps.
Many mothers tend to have gaps after their kids are born, but don’t realize that organizing marathons at school, charity fundraisers, toy drives and other community involvement initiatives actually speak to their planning, organization, time management, communication and influencing skills, so think hard about everything you do and realize that there may be more resume worthy experiences that you have not considered.
Finally, when asked in an interview about any gap be honest and don’t feel the need to excuse your absence. Own it and feel confident about why you had that gap and why you are now going back to work.
