Pricing coaching packages

Are you unclear about your expectations from coaching? This article will help you set the right expectations from coaching.
Coaching by nature is a client-driven process. You get to decide what you want to achieve in whatever timeline. Hence coaching packages are customized as per the need of the client.
Typically, there are two types of people who seek coaching:
1) People who sign up for “ongoing results”:
People who feel stuck, confused and don’t know what next. They may be at a crossroads, going through a difficult phase in their life, or just generally feeling lack of motivation. For example, Difficulty in choosing a career path, seeking more clarity and self-awareness, coping up with a loss, transitioning to a new role to name a few.
Here the coach helps you to focus on your goals, keep you motivated, help you stay on track, and be your accountability partner. This would be an ongoing process. Agenda of each coaching session will be decided by you and you may choose to discuss different issues on a need to need basis. The rates are charged on a per hour or per session basis. Something like Zumba classes for $100 per hour.
Pros:
As a client, this is easy on your pocket. If you are unsure about the benefits of coaching you can pay per session bi-weekly or monthly. Of course, this comes with perks if you pay for a couple of sessions at once.
Also, you get to discuss multiple areas of concern, design a plan of action and move forward
Cons:
Though these sessions promise self-awareness and clarity, you may still not feel fully satisfied (even if the coach did a good job). This is because the coach is giving ongoing support to achieve multiple goals along the way and significant results may take more time to show.
2) People who are focused on a single goal or result (Result oriented)
People who are clear about what they want to do. For example, increasing my business revenue by 2X, losing weight by 10kgs in the next 3 months, being more assertive in communication, developing negotiation skills to name a few.
As a coach working with this type of client requires a high level of preparation. This is a highly result-oriented activity and often needs more extensive research and external support outside the 1-1 coaching session. For example, SMART goal setting, quarterly goals planner, SWOT, Action- Priority matrix, etc.
Pros:
If you are serious about your goal and want to see results in the shortest time possible, this package is for you. This will need you to put extra hard work and effort to reach your goal. That implies a high level of commitment and accountability to self.
Cons:
As these are premium priced packages, they may not seem economically viable at first.
Here the agenda for each session is pre-decided, questions and assignments are customized and the goals are well defined. These are high reward, highly satisfying hence premium priced coaching packages. Here the rates are not charged per session, but for the result. Something like, learn a Bollywood dance number and perform on stage in one month for $500.
Set your expectations right before you choose any coaching program. My personal favorite is the result-oriented coaching program. This demands a high level of commitment and engagement from both the client and the coach and the results are amazing, measurable and out there. Some people start off with ongoing results coaching programs and gradually transition to the result-oriented programs once they have their goals clearly defined and feel a sense of urgency to achieve the goal.
