TIP 1. PREVENTING PEOPLE FROM BAD CAREER CHOICES
A bad job choice is easy to make. A good job choice takes self-awareness, discernment, focus, marketing know-how, commitment, effort and patience. It’s a Big Project, meaning that people make a “better job” of it when they are not stressed-to-breaking-point before they start.
TIP 2. FEELING FRUSTRATION
We are humans, not robots. We are affected by others and by our environment, motivated by a deep wish to feel good about ourselves. But we all experience times when we feel bad about ourselves in the form of anger, hurt, sadness, shame or guilt. Each passing decade brings us new challenges, new pain to face.
If we ignore it, unexamined emotional pain stays with us a burden that gets heavier over time. It contorts us, decade after decade.
If we want a successful life, we must absolutely find the courage to deeply examine the root of each pattern of pain. When we do so, we are rewarded with a sense of lightness, self-respect and freedom from frustration.
Controversial as it may sound, pain is not supposed to be experienced as cruel or unfair. It’s life’s only way to show us who we are today and who we can be tomorrow.
Life wants us to be older AND wiser.
TIP 3. TOXIC WORKPLACE
If your workplace is full of hostile people, look for a role somewhere else. And while you’re looking, play this odd game: every time you get a drink, spot one good thing about your work.
It’s counter-intuitive. You are not the victim here. Feel compassion for hostile people. They don’t have as many emotionally intelligent tools as you do. You can adjust your own thinking. They can’t.
Over a week, notice the positive knock-on effects of this seemingly tiny shift. You’ll see. How the workplace presents itself to you depends hugely on how you present yourself to the workplace. Just try it for a week.
Be enthusiastic about shaping your own life.
TIP 4. AVOIDING BURNOUT /ENERGY DEPLETION
Be careful how you spend your energy. You have a limited amount of it, spend it only on meaningful beneficial things which move you forward in your life.
TIP 5. COMFORT ZONE
By definition, starting something “new” means you’re going to be standing outside your comfort zone.
Feeling permanently comfortable while starting something new is impossible. Feeling comfortable will not lead you to anything better.
Accept that discomfort is the only way to get from where you are now to where you want to be.
