Self-Care is a MUST -- Here's Why

Self-care is 100% something that you need to incorporate in your daily life -- especially if you're an entrepreneur or you run a business. Here's why.
I’ve been an entrepreneur for over 3 years now, and running two small businesses has taught me a thing or two. One of them is that the #hustle mindset is utter bullsh*t. If you’re grinding away and pulling all-nighters for your business, you’re messing up your health. Mental, emotional, physical, social — all of it.
And that’s where self-care comes in. Self-care is anything that improves or maintains your health, happiness, and well-being. It’s not just retail therapy or getting massages. It’s not even your cheat day. There are four types of self-care!
4 Reasons You NEED to Self-Care
1) Mental health over every damn thing
We know now that mental health isn’t just about the brain. Your thoughts, emotions, and mood affect every part of your life. If you’re depressed or anxious, you’re not going to be able to work efficiently. Your productivity will go down. You’ll get on sales calls, and you might turn off your potential clients because of your low mood and negative energy.
How do you avoid this? By meditating, journaling, or going to therapy. Focus on your mental health so you can show up in your business.
2) Burnout is real
Burning out can be super dangerous for your business. If you go all in all the time, you’ll reach your breaking point. And once you do, your focus, efficiency, energy — everything will suffer. Ultimately, so will your work.
There are a lot of ways to avoid this. Take breaks. Don’t work for hours at a stretch. Drink plenty of water, and get enough sleep — please!
3) All by myself…
Business, at the end of the day, means you have to engage with people. It’s all about networking, baby. If you kill your social life because you want to avoid “distractions”, where are you going to get clients or customers from? Word of mouth is one of the best ways to make sales. And spending time with your loved ones is a great way to blow off steam!
So go on, have a drink with the girls. Go on that date. Call your mom. You won’t regret it.
4) You’re no fun anymore!
You’re working day in, day out. Social media, sales pitches, workshops and seminars. After a point of time, you’re going to get bored. And that might lead to you quitting your business or giving up. You don’t want to lose the old you, right? The one who’s funny and has hobbies and loves her friends?
Trust me: just spend an hour a day doing what you love apart from your biz. It’s life-changing.
