Effective and Achievable Goal Setting Is Incredibly Important - Here's why...

We hear about setting goals all the time, we hear less about achievable goals that are efficient. Goal setting is an art of structure & efficiency.
Well, there’s the obvious reason that goals are meant to be achieved, and that they usually have important reasons behind them. For example, when playing soccer, there is one main goal for each player on the soccer pitch: to get the ball into the other team’s goal – as many times as possible.
When it comes to coaching, one thing we work on a lot as coaches is helping our coachees set goals then keep them accountable. That being said, when I coach, I tend to insist on not only assisting the coachee to learn how to set goals and achieve them, I also tend to push them into the habit of ensuring they know how to set their goals and how to set themselves up for success and not for failure.
Once a coachee gets into the mindset of effective and achievable goal-setting, or EXTRAordinary goal-setting, they also create a habit of doing so. What does that mean? It means they are ensuring their own success and they are keeping themselves motivated because they know they can achieve what they set themselves up to. We’ve all been in a situation where we have a goal to get done though we are just procrastinating and not doing much about it. Admit it, you have been there! Often times, this is due to the fact that we are so overwhelmed by the goal and find it so huge and unachievable that we just do not want to start it.
What do I mean by effective goals? When I work with my coachees, we work on having the goals they set to be meaningful and effective. How so? Meaningful in the sense that the coachee needs to understand and love the reason behind wanting to achieve the goals since without meaning is the goal even needed? Effective being that goals are to be achieved and have an effect on some aspect of the coachee’s life. For example, a goal that is achievable but does not forward the momentum of a coachee’s intent to improve a certain aspect of their life is a goal I would debate is not even worth having at that point in time. Its effect is not desirable nor is it needed at that point in time deeming it ineffective.
In short, if you learn how to set an achievable and an effective goal, you are on your way to constant success in your life’s endeavors! I work with coachees on setting EXTRAordinary goals for that reason.
