At one time I was a prisoner of my past. Nothing more than a blind slave to the wounds of my childhood & the weight I had mistakenly placed on the expectations of others for my life. This in turn caused me to waste years of my life hiding from myself by denying who I really was. I mesmerized myself with these lies as to who I was supposed to be and the life I ordered myself to be living. I never willingly let go of my past because I was confident the pain was what defined me. I allowed the traumatic memories I carried with me to shape the character of who I was; A being mostly defined by a long list of mistakes and failures, none of which I would ever release, or forget.
The past was painfully real for me on a daily basis: Tangible, present, and a perpetual source of deep misery every moment of my life.
