Why Self-Love is 100% a MUST

Here’s why self-love is one thing you must absolutely strive for in your journey of personal development.
I am now obsessed with Lizzo’s music. If you don’t know her, what the hell are you doing? This body positive singer and musician may be plus-sized, but that doesn’t stop her from loving how she looks and being proud of it – as she ought to.
In today’s world, social media is the only way we connect with most people. It’s the only way we know what’s going on with others, and how freaking awesome their lives are. They’re slim but curvy in all the right places. They travel abroad every month. They have millions of followers. So they immediately become #lifegoals, #bodygoals, #vacationgoals. Hey, I’ve done this too. It’s completely normal.
The thing is, we don’t know shit about what their real lives are like. The only person whose life we know about is ours. So loving our lives, our bodies, our schedules, and also striving for better, is 100% a must. Because if you don’t love yourself, it’s going to be pretty difficult to improve. Why bother fixing something that’s well past broken, right?
Wrong. When you love and accept yourself for who you are, you stop seeking external validation. You stop lowering your standards and letting the wrong people in. Instead, you start embracing your inner badass. You start living and thriving, not just surviving. You start enjoying the beautiful experience that life is.
Self-love isn’t a destination, though. It’s a journey. You’re gonna have days where you look in the mirror and say, “YAAAASSS, Queen! You’re slaying!” and other days when you tug at your tummy and poke at your acne. That’s completely normal. Lizzo has them too, I’m sure. Maybe even Beyoncé, and we all know she’s the real Queen. But self-love is when you have that bad body image day, then shrug it off and say, “Hey. I don’t like how I look or feel today. But that’s all right. I’ll feel better soon enough. I accept my feelings today.”
The next post in this series will focus on the steps you can take to fall in love with your awesome self and be okay with your emotions regarding your body: good, bad, or ugly.
