The importance of taking new perspectives for leaders

Do. Try. Change. Fail. Recover. But never never never stop exploring and learning. That is the basic essence of leadership!
The power of perspective never fails to surprise me: change perspective and you will sink into a new reality you had previously not even considered. Simple and powerful. No matter how often I use this trick with myself or with others, we always learn something new. Always.
Travelling is an obvious one: change scenario, change routine, change language and background music, and without the slightest effort, some fresh air will enter your mind. Probably that is the reason why once upon a time I decided to regard this addiction of mine of constantly wanting to visit new lands and getting to know new people and cultures, as a healthy and rich habit to maintain. Convenient! And that is why every year I try to visit new places if possible far away, and every month I try to travel outside the comfort of my 4 Viennese walls.
Once I read that new places nurture our power of creativity and innovation. Our brains absorb the input coming from our senses, and make up the reality surrounding us incorporating new rules and ways to see the world. The more we travel, the more we see and understand that our way is not the only way, while we incorporate new elements of possibility and potential. We experience that more is possible and in many more different ways.
So here I go. This time, my new destination is a place I should have visited a long time ago, given my nationality: Portugal! I will finally look at the Atlantic Ocean from this other angle. I feel more than ready to experience the new, the different, the good, the bad and the ugly. Im ready to discover the Portugal in me and Im looking forward to seeing the world from a Portuguese angle.
Now here is to you: how about taking a new perspective today? Maybe it is a new coffee bar, a new park, a new conversation with the person sitting next to you in the underground, or a new meal. Maybe it is a new country. Whatever you decide to do, happy exploration, happy discovery, and keep on submerging into new perspectives! I look forward to reading your comments.
