You are ready to make a career leap or change directions and the sound of congratulations echo around you, but internally you can feel the build-up of nerves wondering if you can deliver and make your new role a success.
Does this sound like you?
Career transitions can be stressful and overwhelming whether you are entering your first job or a senior professional. Those inner self-doubting voices can creep in even in the first stages of change when you are applying for the position you want. Often as we move up in our careers, the pressure and expectations increase while the support to do so is less.
Additionally, the anxiety can build up as these concerns remain hidden because we do not want others to loose confidence in our abilities. Instead, these worries and doubts can self-sabotage by holding us back from our true potential.
After working with many people along their career transitions, I have realized that we all share many similar fears and worries when the prospect of facing something new is before us and that we often suffer in silence.
It is because of this, that I work closely with people through career coaching to support them to make their changes successful. When we are making big changes in our lives, this also opens the door to exciting opportunities for leaps in personal growth which can be very empowering. We all have an incredible capacity for learning and growth at all stages in our lives if we are willing to embrace the process and be comfortable stretching outside our comfort zones.
Here are a few tips I’ve found helpful to navigate the bumpy road of career transitions, I hope you find them helpful:
• Build your team – surround yourself with people who will support and challenge you throughout the process and be willing to ask for help.
• Develop your own transition plan – this can help you to stay focused, forward moving and set clear goals to help identify areas that will support your transition into the new role.
• Create space for awareness and learning -
