The greatest career shift

The key to a career shift is becoming aware of your uniqueness and owning it.
Most people wait till they find themselves in a place of pain or even want to run away from their current job before they aim for career satisfaction.
I believe there is a better way.
The greatest career shift is an internal shift. It is becoming aware of your uniqueness and owning it.
I have seen this many times over the years as a career coach and noticed this again now.
I just finished a session with my wonderful client Michele. She came to me a few months ago, with statements like: I want to change job! I don’t know what I want to do or even can do. This organisation doesn’t suit me any longer.
Michele set on a journey of self-discovery and growing self-awareness. This is now paying off.
Today, she observed she is becoming more confident, which is showing in her professional and even in her personal life. While a little while ago she couldn’t picture where she’d like to be working, she now realises she doesn’t have to necessarily leave her current organisation.
Having uncovered her uniqueness, her inner motivations and drives, her passion and values, and whatever else makes her ‘Michele’, she is acting with greater confidence.
She is showing up and playing bigger.
She delivers her work with a boosted spirit and thanks to that extra punch she come to even better results.
She connects to and communicates with others in a very different way, with a positive energy.
All this has been noticed by the organisation as she was now told that her temporary project will get validated as a long-term position given the added-value they see her bringing.
It’s her internal shift which makes the difference. The shift from doubts and questions, to clarity and confidence, a place where the learnings are being harnessed effectively.
This doesn’t mean she won’t make a career shift and/or leave her current employer.
What it does mean is that it will be a shift from a much stronger position which is important as shifts call for perseverance.
When making a shift with full awareness of your own qualities, talents, values, and expertise, the shift becomes a statement. It is responding with a clear pull towards something new rather than a push out of, if not a flight from the current organisation or situation.
Whatever choices are made following that internal shift, are choices made from your freer self, in line with who you are. It opens your mind to what is possible, even right around you.
That is where I love to get client to: a place where they make choices in line with who they are, coming from a place of inner strength.
