Coaching tip of the week - You set a goal, now what?
Posted on March 16, 2019 by Tania Melick, One of Thousands of Executive Coaches on Noomii.
Before you embark on the journey towards achieving your goal, ask yourself this fundamental question:
- On a scale of 0 to 5 “How committed am I to achieving my goal”? Your commitment should be at 5.
If it is not at 5, it does not mean that it is the wrong goal or that you need to give up.
You need to identify “What is holding you back from being 100% committed?”
- Are there other goals competing with your goal? Can you say “No” to competing goals, so that you can say "Yes"s to what you really want to achieve?
- Do you have fears, concerns, are you reluctant to make decisions? If yes, do you have someone who can encourage you, help you to better understand yourself? It could be a mentor, a coach or a person of trust.
- Do need specific skills? If yes which skills? can you hire those skills? If you cannot hire the skills, can you seek advice from your professional network, your friends, family, colleagues, or may be linkedin members?
- Do you lack resources? If yes, which ones. How and where can you secure them?
- What are the values that will guide on your journey? Are your values ready to sail with you?
- Have you set your long-term intentions that will accompany you and support your quest to reach your goal. Example of an intention could be: I intend to remain grateful whatever happens and to be open to exploring new possibilities that will guide me towards my goal. Or I intend to be selective with how I spend my time and when I am afraid to make a step forward, to do it anyway.
Remember, the journey is as important as the destination.
Commit at a 100% at the Start line and you will be able to accelerate along the way.
