Why Being Comfortable is Not the Goals

“Have you really lived ten thousand or more days, or have you lived one day ten thousand or more times?” How comfortable are you?
Wayne Dyer prolifically said, “Have you really lived ten thousand or more days, or have you lived one day ten thousand or more times?”
That’s a stirring thought. I don’t know about anyone else, but I don’t want to live the same day over and over. Our experiences build us. Our experiences challenge us.
Living the same day time and time again only provides us comfort. It doesn’t provide growth.
Do We Need a Routine?
Research suggest that routines are good for us. Maybe you wake up at 5:00 a.m., do yoga, or go for a run. Or maybe you always stay in on Friday night and order pizza and watch a movie. You can say that routines simplify life. Or, you can say that it brings boredom to life.
There are some great things that happen with a routine:
Productivity – You get things done with nominal thinking. You don’t waste time.
Progress – Potent routines help you meet your goals. If you consistently follow your routine, you’ll meet your goals much quicker.
But…
A lackluster routine is stagnating. If that’s the kind of routine you have, you can’t rely on that routine to help you achieve incredible things. If your weekly schedule is filled with tasks that keep you busy, but you don’t have anything to show for it at the end of the week, you may not have a great routine.
“You may be busy but you’re not busy growing.”
We like to feel comfortable and confident, don’t we? But a bit of discomfort is good for you. If you find yourself avoiding new situations because they make you uncomfortable, how will you ever have new experiences? How will you ever live your dreams?
Of course you will feel apprehensive at first but dipping your toe in uncharted waters is where the well of abundance lies.
New territory, new rewards.
Being in discomfort will build your confidence. The more you do it, the better you become. But it’s the culmination of discomfort that facilitates your goal attainment.
Here’s the question you need to ask yourself:
“Do you want your dream enough to brave your discomfort?
If your answer is no, go back to your PJs and binge watch Netflix. If you answer yes, what thing will you do this week to be uncomfortable?
