"Dad" Is a Verb!

A concise piece exploring the term "dad" as a verb, rather than a noun. Includes powerful tips for any dad to get into an action-oriented mindset!
“We got ourselves a good old-fashioned dad-off!”
I’m quoting a great line from the Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell movie “Daddy’s Home”. If you haven’t seen it- the main characters compete with one another to see who can be the “best” dad in an evolving family. I love this film and this duo.
I also love the use of the word “dad” as a verb.
Why? Because I believe:
When we “dad” at our very best, we do everything else at our highest levels of potential- EVERYTHING. More on this in a coming publication…
Looking at the word as a verb also gets to the heart of the matter. Being a dad is a role, but it is meaningless unless we LIVE it—and the best way to live it— is to DO it. You are not a skier unless you ski, you are not a hunter unless you hunt… Being a dad is not a spectator sport.
Every dad CAN do something to be an active player- it doesn’t have to be extravagant or even a huge time commitment every day. It just needs to be DONE.
*Getting Started or Re-started
If you feel you’ve been “in the stands” more than “on the field” in your role as a Dad:
1. Know that you are NOT alone- it is common and completely understandable to feel this way. The competition for, and threats to, our time and energy as dads have never been greater.
2. WHEREVER you are- THIS is your starting point.
3. I’m using some sports language in this piece, but it is not a competition- except maybe with ourselves….
4. TRUST yourself to know your first achievable step, and the next, and the next. Get a hand if you are stuck in any way.
5. Take your first step TODAY
6. What can the dad in you do, today, at the best level possible? It doesn’t have to be epic, just something done in full measure- no half measures allowed!!
Wishing all dads, in all forms, all the best!
