Philosophy is a an ancient way of introducing to life's mysteries. I offer my view in this article.
Philosophy is for everyone. Whether we are aware of it or not, we engage in philosophy almost on a daily basis. Unlike how most people may have a vague idea of philosophy associated with only asking deep questions such as : “Is there life after death?” “Does God exist?” “Are their any absolute moral laws?”.
But, in reality philosophy begins by the simple act of prolonged thought. However, one cannot classify it as philosophy as it is to function but when this prolonged thought unearths concrete rationale which brings about the realization of hidden facts of the matter at hand. We officially enter the premises of philosophy.
Now, this appears to be a very important skill to develop as it would prove highly advantageous to the practitioner to be able to make sound decisions.
You see a philosophical practitioner does exactly that.. The practitioner brings forth his or her expertise in skilled thinking and offers the client an opportunity to be intellectually challenged, as this brings about the opening up of one’s defenses against being ignorant.
Two of the fundamental features that follow in this process are namely, the evaluation of the individual’s foundation i.e. Belief system and help them develop a comprehensive understanding of the inner and outer world.
The first part is one of the most central part of one’s life. Imagine your life with inconsistent beliefs or incomplete ones? Here the philosopher uses their skilled logical expertise bring to the surface those beliefs which are held within the client uncritically. The logical method used by the philosopher is highly developed in it’s ability to distinguish truth from error and force the the inconsistency to reveal about the treasured belief and therefore the consequences. The practitioner then seeks to remove the taint of prejudice, superstition, blind acceptance of ideas, ignorance and any other form of irrationality through the second feature
Secondly, the philosophical practitioner attempts to help the client develop a more comprehensive understanding of the world (outside and inside) in which he or she exists and experiences. This task is rather arduous as the practitioner cannot confine this education to some fragmentary knowledge through human experience or a part of disciplines, but rather through the will to integrate the proven factual analysis of scientific fields such as natural sciences and formal sciences, together with the conclusive arrivals from the field of social sciences such as economics, sociology and politics with addition of the humanities such as literature, history, art and religion. Thereafter to be able to reflect together with the client in order to reach some general conclusions as to the nature of the universe and one’s position in it.
Philosophical Practitioner’s place of work is not an office but a Study where he or she spends a great amount of time questioning, seeking, reading, thinking, learning and experimenting a whole lot of theories specific to the intellectual domain.
Philosophical practice is one of the most earnestly driven helping profession of this age.
