We can let go of any unwanted feelings

We can do 3 things with our feelings:
1. Suppress
2. Act on it
3. Let it go
We can do 3 things with our feelings:
1. SuppressThis is what we do most of the time. We feel something uncomfortable and then we swallow it or quickly find some distraction, something to do so we don’t have to feel it. Because we think that if we let ourselves feel it, it will overwhelm us or destroy us. (Which is not true.)
2. Act on it
The most common is that we start to fight against it. Like with anxiety… fighting it – trying to cope with it.
You probably noticed by now that fighting your feelings doesn’t work. We do it anyway because we believe that it did not work because we have to do it more…or harder. If it would work this way, you’d have solved all your problems by now.
Acting on our negative feelings usually brings negative results. More anxiety, more pain, negative outcome in a situation…
3. Let it go
Means that we let it be and do what it does and then do nothing with it. This is one way to let go.
This might be harder to do in the beginning, since it’s unfamiliar after years of suppression. Can be scary too
as the feelings will get stronger first. But if you just let it be there, it will have it’s moments and then start to loose it’s power.
Since we practice suppressing most of the time (many of us for decades now), it became an unconscious habit. You haven’t been born with all those bad feelings right? Somewhere it started and got worse for you…so it was not there always.
It might take some time to change this habit and clean up the suppressed feelings, but it can be done.
More recent (fairly fresh) emotional problems can leave us more easily.
How long does it take? It takes as much time as it does…never a second more. :)
