Beauty for Ashes

Just a few years ago I was feeling a way that I had never, ever felt before in my life. I felt stuck at a job that I loved. What! Yep! I loved my office, I loved my team, I loved my clients, I loved the location, I loved the company, I absolutely loved my salary and benefits! So what was the problem? My boss and the executive HR leadership team.
I knew I’d made a mistake in accepting that job my first day at the office. You know that sinking feeling you get in your gut? Its always right, so trust it. Everything was right and good about this job, but my boss and the executive leadership team. I remember when my boss returned from the vacation she was gone when I started the new job. Upon her return from vacation she called me early one morning to catch up. Her office was located in Northern Virginia. My office was located just above Georgetown in Washington, DC. As I was updating her, I mentioned that her client contacted me for assistance with an urgent matter that I helped him resolve. When I shared the fact that he reached out to me, she yelled through the telephone in a very menacing tone saying “You better not ever speak to any of my clients again”! Woe Nelly! This lady isn’t working with a full deck or she has a real problem with me I thought. Needless to say, I was shocked! I don’t even remember what I said to her and that was my 17th day on my new job. Wow! What a welcome.
By the way, I forgot to mention that she didn’t hire me. Her boss hired me and when I interviewed with my boss, she said to me in the interview, “I don’t want anyone whose hand I have to hold”. Mind you my dear friends, I later found out that this woman (my boss) was about to be fired due to her lack luster performance. Howeva, her friend (who hired me) transferred her to HR to save her job. Get the picture?
My point in sharing all of this is to say, I used my personal power and all of what I’ve learned over the years in earning my Master’s Degree in behavioral science and my experience in coaching to manage myself out of those murky waters at work. I made a conscious decision to take control of my life and my career. I decided to create the beautiful life I am enjoying now both personally and professionally. I can support you in doing the same.
