Tell the truth about your finances! Get organized to empower yourself to start making decisions to generate wealth & create a plan for success!
When was the last time you sat down and took a big picture look at your overall finances? Yes, this would mean ALL of your accounts, including your investment accounts, and any random accounts just sitting out there that you almost forgot you had.
If you haven’t done this in awhile, rarely or only when forced to gather documents for your taxes, I would encourage you to do that now or within the next 30 days. If your goal is to create a personal financial plan, you have to start somewhere and that somewhere is usually telling the truth about your finances.
Now, I don’t care if telling the truth about your finances will only make it into your subconscious, that is closer to where we are headed. If you have the courage to actually talk with a trusted advisor or friend who can help give you tips on how to organize your finances to empower yourself around money, that would be taking a step toward our ultimate goal.
I am here to provide you with guidance on what you can do to help face the unknown (if you have any) about your finances and get organized to empower yourself to begin making decisions to generate wealth and create a long-term plan for success!
Here are a actions I encourage you to take:
1. Sit down for 10-30 mins and write down your financial goals. Write your 3-month, 6-month, 1-yr and 5 year goals. Take time to really detail the amount of income you want to generate, the dream house you want to buy, the trips you want to take and put some dollar signs around this. This will help you get clear about what you really want and what it’s going to take (in monetary terms). **keep this somehwere safe to refer to later on this year.
2. Talk with your significant other or spouse about your joint financial goals. Write down creative ways to reach them. **a fun game to play is to have each partner write their own list of 10 goals/dreams and then exchange the lists with each other and see how many of your goals match. If they do, great! If they don’t, then commit to creating a plan together to help each other achieve everything on that list.
3. Buy an accounting software and learn how to use it. Don’t just buy it and have it sit in a box as another thing in that corner or in that drawer that you’ll get to “someday”. I recommend getting QuickBooks as is is extremely user friendly and only takes a few minutes to setup. Don’t be intimated by accounting software. It is there to help you, so commit a few hours to learn how to use it. If you need help, you can always contact me or another certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor in your area.
