Here are 5 reasons to hire a coach to help you manage your ADD/ADHD and start living the life you want…
1) Coaching is collaboration
At its core, coaching is about collaboration, not handing out advice or telling a client what they should do. I regard my clients as the experts in their own lives who know what is and isn’t right for them and a great deal of the coaching process is about discovering what those things are. I’m happy to provide suggestions should a client ask for them, but the goal of coaching is really about identifying and working toward outcomes that are meaningful to the client in a manner that suits their particular needs.
2) Better understand your ADD/ADHD
You know about ADD/ADHD, but how much do you know about YOUR ADD/ADHD? The symptoms and severity of ADD/ADHD vary widely from person to person. Working with a coach trained in ADD/ADHD can help you identify all the ways ADD/ADHD is showing up in your life. This step is crucial in developing personalized strategies that will help you successfully manage day-to-day ADD/ADHD-related challenges such as disorganization, poor focus and follow through, and difficulties with time-management.
3) Identify and use your strengths
Coaching takes a strengths-based approach rather than focusing solely on areas of difficulty. ADHD coaches view ADD/ADHD as a unique brain wiring rather than a problem or disorder that needs to be fixed. The goal is to help you make your unique processing style work for you, rather than against you. When I work with a client, we spend a great deal of time identifying and talking about their strengths, passions, talents, achievements, and proudest moments. In doing so, we are then able to create a plan for tackling ongoing challenges that uses those strengths to the client’s advantage.
4) Create and clarify your personal vision
Take a moment to consider your ideal self. Who would you be? What would you choose to do? How would your life be different as a result? Working with a coach can help you create a clear vision for yourself and how you can begin to take steps toward living your life in a way that honors the unique individual that you are.
5) Clear out the “mental clutter” that is keeping you stuck
Mental clutter generally consists of limiting beliefs and judgments we hold about ourselves and our circumstances. As a result, we end up “struck” because we are unable to see the possibilities and opportunities available to us. Coaching can help you clear out the clutter and get you moving forward.
