TO WISH YOU WERE SOMEONE ELSE, IS TO WASTE THE PERSON YOU ARE

Most people are searching for happiness outside of themselves, this is a mistake. Happiness is something you are, it comes from the way you think.
I wish I could be thinner, I wish I could be smarter, I wish I could be richer………just a FEW of the myriad “wishes” I hear all the time from my friends, colleagues and clients.. And yes, I am guilty of doing this too. It sucks to wish away who we are or to constantly live in a state of wishing we were something better or different.
But why is this such a pervasive problem??? More importantly how can we love ourselves now, for all that we are or are not, and still strive to be better?
I think that we as a society tend to focus on whats wrong in our lives INSTEAD of being thankful for what is going right. Crazy how the human brain works right?
Ok, so let’s start breaking this down (by now, you all know how I love to do this).
Happiness is being happy in your life. We experience it immediately and in the moment.
Life satisfaction is being happy about your life. It is the happiness that exists when we talk about the past and the big picture.
When we deprive ourselves of our best life, we also deprive our friends and family. They end up suffering as well and continually get the drained version of us. Our relationship with ourselves determines our relationship with everything else, so it is crucial we stop wasting the here and now.
Try some of the tips below to start the process of liking yourself: loving yourself will come later, I promise!
Stop comparing yourself to others. People achieve success and fail at different rates.
Find something at which you excel. Maybe you are really amazing at working with kids and you just don’t know it yet.
Spend time alone. It’s okay if you want to stay home on a Friday night, catch up on your DVR and eat froyo because you’ve had an exhausting workweek.
Read that book you’ve been meaning to read. In fact, read as many books as possible. Reading expands the imagination and sharpens the mind.
Being authentically happy starts with the realization that you are both the source and the cause of your own well-being. We never get to experience the world as it really is; we only get to experience our thoughts about the world.
What I teach my clients in my 90 Day Transformation package is that true change is a continual process of letting go. We always have to let go of something in order to get to the next stage of our evolution.
