How to handle fear - But here we will talk about not only overcoming them but becoming more courageous and here’s how.
Change is the only constant in this world, but it is change that most of us fear the most.
Delivering a presentation, career switch, being misjudged, public speaking, moving to a different country; everyone’s afraid of something or the other but it’s high time you got over your fears.
We’ve all been there, been paralyzed with fear, felt frozen on the spot, broke into a sweat and even felt anxious or petrified with fear. Fear has victimized almost all of us and continues to do so across diverse situations of life. Some fear failure in exams, some fear heights, some fear closed spaces, some fear death and some even fear life itself.
Be it relationships, business, experiences, studies, adapting to changes, finishing what we started or starting over, the big F continues to haunt. Fear comes and grips us so tightly that all we are left with is self-doubt and anxiety.
Impossible is nothing and conquering fear too is possible.
Here’s the secret to overcoming all our fears…Face Your Fears.
Agreed it’s nothing new you are hearing but it is the antidote to conquer fear. Just search the term ‘how to overcome fear’ and all the results you see will ask you to own up to your fears and act on them. But here we will talk about not only overcoming them but becoming more courageous and here’s how.
1. Acknowledge Your Fears.
The first step towards overcoming fear is to be honest to be oneself about them. Understanding one’s own limitations and anxiety, expressing our actual thoughts and feelings, basically acknowledging fear paves the way towards courage and success.
2. Be Vulnerable.
Afraid of what people will think or letting them see who we really are or exposing our true selves drives fear. We tend to avoid the things that make us vulnerable and in this process we hide and bolt our true feelings. To truly conquer our fears we need to go out there and expose ourselves to whatever it is, criticism or failure.
By helping ourself to face what we’re afraid of would help us come out of the grip of fear. The repeated exposure will lower the psychological fear response until it is either more manageable or completely eradicated.
3. Manage Stress.
Stress is a regular companion of fear and stress can contribute to negative feelings that can further add to fear-based thinking. Both meditation and exercise have the power to reduce stress levels and keeping a positive mind frame.
4. Analyze.
The fear we feel, is never without a reason. Analyzing the root and cause of our fear can give us a chance to find and combat it for good.
5. Be Yourself.
Being your authentic self requires courage as most people around us wear masks and might be very different when they are around others.
6. Practice, Practice and Practice.
The more we practice of overcoming our fears, the more we actually overcome them. The feelings you experience once you overcome even a tiny part of it pushes you more towards conquering all your fears and falling in love with your life.
