Transformational Coaching

Transformational coaching is a style of coaching that can be applied to any individual. We all have big dreams, which are unique to us.
“I absolutely believe that people, unless coached, never reach their maximum capabilities.” Bob Nardelli, (former CEO, Home Depot)
There are quite a few different styles of coaching.
There are coaches who work exclusively with businesses. Coaches are often brought in to an organization for the purpose of organizational development, or for mentoring and training staff. Coaches are used for supporting key employees during a change of role or transition. They are used for business leaders and executives to improve their potential in the marketplace. They are used for performance enhancement or to build specific skills, such as leadership skills.
Then there’s life coaching, or transformational coaching. This is a style of coaching that can be applied to any individual. We all have big dreams, which are unique to us. Some have career dreams or relationship dreams or financial dreams. As we get older, we might find ourselves in a place we didn’t expect to be. Far from those once-upon-a-time dreams, we realize not everything went according to plan and we feel a sense of disappointment, frustration, maybe even depression.
At this point, you might want to get your life back on track, look into those dreams and see if they’re still a possibility. Individuals seeking a coach at this point want to typically feel happier and more fulfilled in life. They want someone to help them to transform what they have in life and who they are.
What does a transformational coach do?
Usually, no matter what it is you’re seeking to change in your life, a coach can help. Coaches work with all types of problems, and they will work with you to help guide you to where you want to be.
During coaching sessions, your coach will talk with you to determine your goals and aspirations. For the most part, you, the client, will do most of the talking, and the coach, who is trained for this, will listen intently. The coach will also observe the client during the sessions. He or she will look for signs of any unspoken thoughts, certain gestures or expressions that will give the coach an indication of your insecurities, problems and attitudes.
What is most powerful about coaching are the types of questions your coach will ask. These questions are specifically designed to understand how you perceive your limitations, bad habits, negative self-image, or anything else that might be holding you back from reaching your goals. After all, if you could reach those goals on your own, you would have done so already. Something is standing in the way of your dreams, whether real or perceived.
A transformational coach will help you to focus on your positive talents and abilities. A coach helps you to put your past behind you and take a new, a more successful, and less-limiting approach to reaching your goals. Many people who have gone through coaching feel they become who they were always meant to be.
To find a coach, you should reach out to friends or acquaintances to see if they know of someone who fits the profile of a successful coach. The best way to find a coach is through referral, because, like a financial consultant, it needs to be someone you can trust and who has a proven track record. Each person is unique, and since the coaching relationship is an intimate one, make sure that who you are coaching with gets you and is someone you feel comfortable with.
