Here are 8 simple ways that you can get started on your self-growth journey. A life coach can help you tweak and implement these into your life.
1. Self Reflection
What really matters to you? What is important for you to do before you die? What kind of experiences do you seek in your life? These are but a couple of the vast and endless questions you can begin asking your self. Develop a list of powerful questions that apply to your own life and self-growth goals. Be sure to take time to ask the questions to your self and allow patience for the answers.
2. Pick up a Book
Every year there are over 100,000 new books in the traditional store. That doesn’t account for the amount of information online or available as downloadable e-books. There is no excuse for wallowing in your situation when you can visit a library, pick up a book and be instantly connected with life-changing information. Tap into people who have done what you want to do and learn from them.
3. Schedule a Break
You are not a robot, therefore you along with every one else needs time away from it all. Take time to rest and it will recharge your batteries. Use the downtime to reflect and relax. Taking a momentary break whether for 20 minutes or 2-weeks is an important part in your ability to return smarter and stronger.
4. Keep a Diary
Keeping track of your progress is vital for self-growth, and a diary or journal is perfect for this purpose. Write down all the things you have implemented and techniques you have tried. Be sure to record mistakes and what you have learned from them. Use your diary to track progress, reflect on results and to sort out ideas.
5. Imagine
Use your imagination! Visualization is a technique in which you picture your “ideal” self in various situations in your life. For example, if you were a student you might imagine yourself calmly answering the test questions confidently. Imagining success can have a peaceful effect and will help you perform at your best.
6. Set Goals
Setting goals is widely accepted as the most important tool for your personal growth Setting specific goals and well-defined objectives will help you get clear on what exactly you want, and serve as a plan for how to achieve it. Remember to add timelines to each milestone. This helps keep you focused and on track.
7. Learn from Mistakes
Nobody likes to make mistakes yet we are all human. Everybody wants to avoid making mistakes and failing, but unfortunately that’s not realistic. No matter what, there will be times when regardless of your efforts and energy, things still do not work out. Do not let these minor setbacks discourage you. Learn from your mistakes and use these lessons as an opportunity to grow.
8. Reward Yourself
Nothing motivates your self like a self-defined reward. What have you been meaning to treat your self too? Once you complete your next big task, take some time to reward yourself for all your efforts. Take a vacation, go shopping, or visit friends. Celebrate your success!
