10 Keys For A Successful Transformative Relocation

Ready to begin again – what it takes to settle in smoothly..
Barb Ratcliffe, Senior Certified Relocation Professional, says that in moving, “the psychological aspects are often underestimated…”
‘… you need to allow yourself the slack to deal with the emotions. Mostly what people need to do is acknowledge what they’re going through to themselves.’
Its a process like seeding and cultivating plants aligned with a daily practice of integration!
So let’s face it: Starting new is always difficult you need to show patience, which is kind of the key component to get through many tough situations. This is also true for relocating to another area, moving your business or even settling in as an Expat, like myself 4 years ago to a new country.
But making yourself a home, a space to be and come home to a safe place is often not considered as complex as it is at a closer look. Even more so, if you need to work from home, like I do!
Often we don’t pay enough attention to what it really takes adapting to a new surrounding and wonder, why we feel lost, out of place, torn apart or unbalanced.
So resuming my recent relocation from the country side to the nearby city life, I learnt a lot about underestimating my moving and settling in activities, especially the fact of stopping to push myself forward.
Here are my main aha-moments I’d like to share with you today:
10 keys for a successful transformative relocation and learn
‘How to transform your mindset and new place into an ideation working space and homey cozy cave within 8 weeks’
1.
AFTER THE DUST SETTLES, bring a most loved smell into your new place for stimulating vigorous memories, regardless of whether it’s fresh baked or cooked goods, fresh brewed coffee, fragrant flowers, natural wood chips, aroma diffuser, scent candles or incense mix. Let your nose function as a pathfinder. Did you know that waves in our brain tap into memories and inner maps? Check this out: sciencedaily dot com
2.
Encourage yourself each week to do something you wouldn’t naturally do or never done before. In my case I never went for a run or swim in between of laundry cycles.
3.
Discover one or more “third places” so life isn’t all work and being at home related.
4.
Investigate new places people, around you
5.
Consider what you can do that you might not have the chance to experience at your old place.
6.
Planting and cultivating herbs, flowers, veggies on the windowsill, around the house, or otherwise tweaking the yard to your liking helps a lot in creating a daily practice of witnessing growth. A way to reflect, nourish and nurture who we are and which new reality we aspire to root and manifest. This is what helped me a lot. I have been sowing basil and chives in small pots at my windowsill and I have been cultivating them day by day. Once I noticed the tiny green leaves appeared, I felt very related to my own transformational process by aligning myself with patience and acceptance that things can’t be done all at once. I realized my first priority and main job was to install my home and work space as a base of igniting new ideas and refueling energy. Learn more about this approach: ausgleichimgarten dot at
7.
Altering, redesigning, fixing the place makes it more “yours” and gives an approach to cooperate with the home past the regular. Even if only renting your space, small changes make a huge difference. Such as replacing curtain rods with drapes of a new color touch, ceiling chandeliers, new handles on kitchen or bathroom cupboards
8.
Involve a daily practice of stretching yourself, calming your mind and crafting assertiveness -in other words what you believe to be true-to adjust to the environment and build trust in the process. In my case I started a ‘5-5-5 Jump-Start-Your Daily Intentions’: 5 min body exercise while listening to Eddie Pinero’s uplifting inspirations: yourworldwithin dot com; 5 min introspection and picking a Mudra card for the day: usgamesinc dot com/MUDRAS; 5 min intuitive crafting of one’s daily intention with only one single application of fiber, color, shape or form: the the complete guideline of the ‘Intention Kit’ is part of my coaching approach.
9.
Adapt to new behaviors and believes by switching mind blocks into possibilities: here is one of my big aha-moments of shifting gears: having our laundry room out of our apartment-building produced a huge burden of complaints and resistance. But once I noticed the tremendous amount of blocked energy, I realized the benefit of having the chance to get some fresh air in between the laundry cycles or having a swim or a run. Hence this uplifted my productivity enormously. I never did that before and in the end of my days I was shocked of how many hours I spent in front of my screen without moving around.
10.
Now and then bring something home from your walk. Could be a stick, or a rock, a flower… Put it in a spot, intentionally. It should just be a place of purpose and intention serving you in the process of adapting and building trust that everything will fall into place with ease.
With these activities, I started to claim ownership of my new space, well-being and reconnected with my creative program designs.
