Regarding acting on your purpose and living your dream, are you a dead-stop stuck, slow & overly cautious or gaining momentum as you accelerate?
If you possess the gift of ADHD, the word “colors” and definitely a photo, will likely grab your attention. We “ADHDers” may think, act and drive as if on the German Autobahn, but it is common for us to operate similar to a traffic light as we travel our road to success.
If you feel like you are at a RED traffic light and at a dead-stop and completely stuck, there may be a connection to your ADHD. Your sensitivity may contribute your desire to gain external approval from others or meet others’ standards of success. Criticism, even if offered constructively, may have brought you a to a screeching halt and your road to success is empty.
Your pursuit of quality may show up as perfectionism and even well-delivered feedback may completely shut you down and you have completely stopped acting on your purpose and living your dream.
Is it time for your traffic light to change from red to green?
Maybe you feel like you are at a YELLOW traffic light, moving slowly and overly cautious, not consistent with the emotions, thoughts and ideas that possess unlimited energy and speed. You may hit a few bumps in the road or pulled off to miss hitting an animal and now you are afraid to drive too fast. Maybe one of the pot holes you drove through flattened a tire and you believe that you can avoid any problems if you just slow down.
Maybe you overly cautious speed is based on your reactions to others telling you to slow down because they are projecting their fear onto you. There may also be a lesson to learn and stopping for a bit to consider feedback, reassess your roadmap and make adjustments as necessary.
Is it time for you to change your traffic light from yellow to red?
If you are moving forward and making good time, why slow down, eh? You feel as if you are winning the race, your tank has gas and there are not engine alert lights flashing. Momentum is good thing, correct?
Momentum Is a good thing. Starting is half the battle. If you are on your way, do not stop, right?
Did you allign with your purpose, create a plan and prepare for your roadtrip? If you possess the gift of ADHD/ADD, there is a very good chance that you did so in a rush or not at all. We are extraordinarily talented and skilled in doing so. What if spending a little (or a lot) more time in the prepartion, planning and training phase could accelerate your trip, help you respond better to bumps in the road and increase your momentum?
Even if you did plan and prepare, how might a brief rest stop off the road help you to assess your trajectory, see if you are following your map, confirm if your plan will get you to your destination and adding gas to your tank, enhance your road to success?
Is it time for you to change your traffic light from green to red?
We ADHDers like variety and traffice light colors can certainly illustrate how our road to success may appear. I really love Rome and I also believe that even if all roads lead to Rome, the Eternal City may not where you want to end up.
Stopping at red light can provide much-needed break to catch your breath and calibrate your actions with your road to success.
Slowing down for bit may be a great opportunity to process some feedback, ensure that you are being powered more by precise passion than by irresponsible impulsivity.
When engine is tuned, your tank is full, your desired destination is clear and your roadmap is accurate, go with the green light and maximize your energy, resiliance and hyper-focus and a plethora of other ADHD/ADD gifts to burn a little rubber on your road to success!
