Passion: You know it when you see it.

What is Passion?
Sometimes I wonder what I did to myself that led to my life going from one in which I did not enjoy what I did for a living and the people I hung out with to a life in which I love what I do. I think about what I do most of my waking moments, and I love the people I get to do it with. The result has been that, on a scale of 1-10, my energy level and my drive has increased from a 5 to a 9.5. In looking back and noticing the changes that have taken place in me, I wanted to write about some of the positive results finding your passion can have for you.
The first positive result I received from finding my passion was in increase of positive energy. Now, there is a difference between negative energy, which I think is also known as “nervous energy”, and positive energy, also known as passion energy, the kind you get from knowing and living out your passion. Passion energy helps you get up earlier in the morning and possibly stay up later in the day thinking about and developing your passion. Passion energy allows you to get more tasks done throughout the day. It even allows you to prioritize your tasks for the day so that, once you have completed some of the required mundane tasks, it leaves you with more time to focus on your passion. Passion energy also spills over into other areas of your life such as family, career, social relationships, exercise, etc…
A second positive result of passion energy is that I started to see the big picture. It is easy to lose perspective when you’re not living your passion. Prior to finding my passion, life was mostly mundane and I worked hard just to get through the day or to make it to the weekend when I was off of work. Passion energy helped me to see that my future life can be filled with excitement and fulfillment as I reach my dreams. Passion energy allows me not get caught up in the day to day grind because I know that I am building my future with a passion for what I do and who I do it with.
The third positive result of passion energy for me is that I do not very often get stopped by the obstacles of life anymore. It used to not take much for me to get sidetracked or to quit on some project when the smallest obstacle came up. Now, with passion energy, I have momentum to blow through the obstacles that in the past stopped be dead in my tracks.
I had heard an illustration to demonstrate how momentum in one’s life and business is crucial. The illustration is as follows: Let’s assume you have a stopped train sitting on the tracks, if you wedge a 2X4 in between the front wheels and that train track, that train will not be able to move no matter the amount of effort that train conductor puts into moving the train; but if the train is moving at 75 mph, and you place a 1 foot wall of cement on the train tracks, the train will blow through the cement wall without hardly noticing it. The difference between the two – momentum; and you get momentum by finding your passion in life.
