Learn the framework it takes to make complex decisions that can effect everyone in your organization.
Effective leadership decisions are more crucial to organizational performance today than ever before. This is due to globalized work environment, rapidly changing technology and employees mindset and values. For this reason, it’s more critical that leaders at the top of organizations have the ability and framework needed to make effective decisions. Here is a framework for gaining clarity in making effective and best decisions for your organization of any size.
What is my outcome I want to achieve? What actions do I need to take to get to my outcome? What do I fear? Where is the pain? What will I do to get to my goal? What are sacrifices for such actions? Who are the main stakeholders I have to gain their buy-in and who are the ones I need them to have common understanding? How do I gain the key stakeholders to have common understanding not buy-in? What are the proper steps for getting to my goal, the people who will help me get to the goal? What obstacles will I face and how will I overcome them? What resources are available to me in achieving this? How can I convey the plan and get everyone involved buy in? What is my back-up plan if the initial plan doesn’t workLeaders today must be able to communicate with clarity and certainty their decisions. We see this a lot today with 2016 US Presidential elections where a candidate makes statements and then later has to explain their statements due to numerous reasons. Clarity of mission, vision, purpose of an organization are just as important when making decisions. Flexibility is core essential attitude, skill needed in leaders today. As such, you must be ready to change approach until desired results are achieved. As a reminder, set aside a reflection period scheduled to ask yourself:
What do I need to change? What is working and how is it working? Am I getting closer to my goal? How do you currently make decisions and are they getting you closer to your goals?
