Weight loss is not magic, it is based on science. What you eat matters. High quality food gives you energy and results in lasting lifestyle changes
The 10 Laws of Healthy Eating
It can be hard to ignore the lure of the quick fix or results when it comes to losing weight. Is a fad diet sustainable? Is it helping you create habits for life? Good questions to ask before you make a change in eating habits. When it comes to eating healthy there are certain rules that do stand up to science and common sense.
#1. Do not skip meals. How much energy do you have when you are hungry?
Your body and your brain need fuel to make decisions and take actions.
- 2. Eat protein and vegetables at every meal. Notice I did not say eat only protein or only any one food group.
#3. Eat more vegetables. Vegetables provide fiber, tame hunger and are good for
your overall digestive system.
#4. Junk in. Junk out. My rule is if I can’t pronounce the ingredients I don’t eat it.
#5. Fruit is a fast food. Too often we forget that fruits are easy to take along
- Avoid anything you can get from a drive though window. Why? Most fast food is high in sugar, salt and or fried. All of those combinations are good to avoid.
#7. Sugar is addictive. If you disagree with this, try a 10-day period with no added sugar. The results will amaze you and you must read every label to find the sugars.
( sugar substitutes act just like sugar in your body, so diet sodas count as sugar drinks)
#8. Food is fuel for your body not to be confused with an emotional support system
Too often we eat when tired, upset, angry or hurt instead of paying attention to the stress triggers underneath the comfort food eating.
#9. Small choices do add up over time. You have to develop a belief that your choices on a daily basis create your healthy outcomes. Small choices are sustainable.
#10. Diets don’t work. Lifestyle choices do make a difference for wellness. Big drastic diet changes or fads just confuse your metabolism. Eating for health is all about making good choices that support your goals over time.
Ten Laws of healthy eating are based on making small choices every day.
Healthy habits are small choices that you make each day that support your larger goals and vision of living well. Keep it simple when it comes to food choices. The number one thing that will improve your eating habits is to plan ahead.
You would not go to work expecting to find proper clothes laying around, so don’t expect healthy food to just show up when you need it. Make up a menu plan and grocery list before you go to the store. Then you are simplifying your decisions and your choices for the week are all healthy. Need help or ideas? Contact me
