3 Empowering Tips to Engage with your true self
We all seem to be on that hamster-wheel of life which is constantly under current and which seems impossible to stop. We all have aspects in life we want to maintain to a certain standard this includes your job, family and friends. First of all, it is perfectly normal to feel that it is unattainable to make a halt to life and just breathe for a second.
“What if it possible to hold the space for a little while and just be?”
Life is shaping us to become the person that others want to be for their needs and wants. Over time we loose features that we used to enjoy or perhaps even gain characteristics that we do not want to have. We have been set out a path that has been created beforehand and feel that it is the only way to go. We accept the changes and direction as we feel that it is unmanageable to go an alternate path. Even the little things in life that bother you seem unavoidable.
Let me tell you that it all starts with a few steps that you can take in your life NOW. It is simply making a choice to take action to engage with your true self. Mostly we seem disconnected and live on autopilot to go through the day.
There are 3 easy to implement steps that will lift your mood instantly and ensure to get you a notch closer to your favourite ‘you’.
Step 1:
Top 3 Gratitude List.
Focussing on what you already have rather than reminding yourself of things that are disturbing is guaranteed to attract more things that you want into your life. Do you remember what you are thankful for? In the morning, take some time to engage with your thoughts and create a small note either on your phone or calendar with a top three list what you are thankful for today. For example, the delicious breakfast, the ride in your car or the uplifting music in the radio. Whatever you would like to mention and makes you happy. This might not seem like a immense shift to you at first, but trust me if you give it a try you will see why it most likely will. My clients have told me that they have felt more empowered and content when starting their day. You will be thinking about what went right this morning rather than wrong. After setting your mind-set into a positive outlook for the day, you will have made a conscious choice to start a positive day. It will increase your gratefulness overall and make you aware of what you enjoy.
Step 2: Value Clarification
What do you want? What a simple question to ask. Although, do you really know deep down what you truly want. Most people think that they know what they want, when they ultimately do not. It is a big blur of numerous thoughts in your head that can easily be untangled.
Let us clarify for yourself what you want and what you don’t want. Truly this comes down to our values. Do you know what values are important for you? Have you spent some time thinking about it? How do you feel about Honesty, Freedom, Personal Growth, Respect and Self-care? There are many values we usually do not honour, even when we would like to. Due to this reason many of us are not aware of their importance to us and how the implementation in daily life of these values can create a large shift in our energy levels and mood.
In order to engage with yourself more, wrap your head around what values play a great role in your life and why. Are you honouring your top values? Which values would you like to honour more and why are you not doing so already? This Step will allow you to gain clarity in what your values are and how you can be happier when honouring certain values more.
(Example:
Top Three Values and how to honour
Respect – People accept me when I say no, because I have a right to my personal opinion.
Fun & Enjoyment – I love to laugh – If something is making me upset I choose to let go of it.
Personal Growth – I follow my personal goals and targets because I know my priorities.
Step 3: Add a fun fact to your daily to-do list.
87% of workers worldwide have claimed to be ‘emotionally disconnected’ from their workplaces and less likely to be productive. Life seems to be a big to-do list, because we are constantly doing and doing. All of our schedules are fully booked. How about booking in an appointment that is just for you. It is completely your own choice what that is. The only rule is that it needs to make you feel good and it is just for you. Find a time in your calendar where you take time to do something for yourself. Then, analyse what made you happy about it. You never know, you might have changed your preference completely and will find something new that you enjoy.
Take time to step back and process what the little things are in life that make you, yo u. These small exercises are there to create awareness about your own characteristics and bring back more of who you are if you feel disconnected with yourself lately. Never forget, you have the right to change what you want and who you want to be at any time of your life. You are the creator of your life.
