Spring Cleaning for the Soul

Much like we may spring clean our home, we may also "spruce up" our thoughts, values and beliefs, creating new space for the person we are becoming.
Having just turned the corner into spring, I am sorting through my clothes & books and making my way through the paperwork that seems to pile up. I ask myself, “Do I feel good in this?” (rather than, Does it still fit?) and "Do I still use this?" When the answer is no, I mentally thank the item for serving me well and with gratitude, let it go. Creating new space allows us for the person we are becoming, rather than hanging on to the person we were.
As Maria Kondo (author of, The Life-Changing Magic of Tiding Up; 2014) aptly says, “The question of what you want to own is actually the question of how you want to live your life.” If we stay open and aware to what we keep and what we let go, we may find a life pattern of how we make choices.
When we have strong attachments to the past, we may find it harder to let go of people, as well as items and may find ourselves more sentimental. Similarly, it may be hard to move on to a new relationship or try a new way of doing something.
On the other hand, when we are anxious about the future, we are more likely to keep something out of fear of not having what we need. The lesson is trusting that we’ll have, or be able to find, what we need, when we need it. Both patterns are obstacles to the present.
Much like we may spring clean our home, we may also “spruce up” our thoughts, values and beliefs.
Do you find yourself often thinking of, or replaying, the past? Are you holding on to a belief or value that no longer serves you, perhaps one that was inherited along the way? Or, do you find yourself playing the “what if” game, missing out on the present, for fear of what may go wrong in the future?
While it may be hard to recognize our own inner clutter & blind spots, with insight and compassion, coaching helps us to shift perspectives. Letting go of what no longer serves us, (physically, emotionally & spiritually), energetically clears the path, leaving us lighter and ready for all that the new seasons and changes in our lives bring. Clear the way for a refreshed you.
Welcome to spring.
