Build your business by learning how to deliver your message in a powerful way that connects with your ideal clients.
In business especially in today’s world, it is essential you know how to get your point across in a powerful way. Whether you are having a one to one conversation, presenting in front of an audience or speaking direct to the camera, knowing how to get your point across in a way that is engaging and has the audience coming back for more is essential.
1. Make it entertaining
Have you heard of edutainment, this is where you educate and entertain your audience at the same time? This is now standard the majority of education videos you watch would be classed as edutainment.
So in every conversation you have, you are basically educating the other person about something, what you’re about, your business, your product or a specific skill, so entertain your audience.
The best way to do this is to engage in storytelling. As Human beings, we love stories. They connect in a way that makes us relate to whoever is telling the story. Stories can entertain and teach a lesson as well as make you relatable to your audience.
Another tool to use is humour. No one wants to listen to someone for a 1 hour who has no sense of humour. It doesn’t have to be a stand-up show, just insert some humour in occasionally. Humour breaks down barriers, so use it.
The other useful tool for entertainment if you’re giving a presentation or workshop is to use other forms of media. Use video and audio to break a presentation up.
2. Be Credible
If you lack credibility then it is unlikely that your audience will take you seriously, so to make sure you seem credible to your audience it is helpful if you can provide some facts & figures with reference to where you got it. Never be scared to name the source if it is not your own idea.
If it is your own idea, explain how you came up with the idea, what are your reference points or experience.
Most importantly you have to feel authentic and credible to yourself. If you’re new to your niche or your position, then it can be hard to feel like you have any kind of credibility. But if you don’t believe in yourself no-one else will. So work on your mindset and self-belief first.
3. Make it Relevant
You have to make your content relevant and to do that you got to know your audience. Are you speaking to stay at home mums or savvy fortune 500 professional business women?
By knowing your audience, you can understand some of their pain points and how you can help them. Therefore, what you should be talking about.
Knowing your audience means you will be able to relate the stories you tell back to their lives.
Another way to make it relevant is to relate what you are saying to current events in the world. Also asking questions and involving your audience makes it a conversation and not a speech.
4. Be Motivating
You should show the light at the end of the tunnel in any conversation. Motivate those you speak to. This is all about making them feel something.
Think about the most powerful conversation you have had with somebody. How did they make you feel? How did you walk away from them? More or less motivated.
Know the point of the conversation and get to it, by asking for action. Show your passion for the topic. Your passion will rub off on them. Plant seeds of knowledge that they may not get now but will grow and sprout later.
All these little actions will motivate your audience to take their own action, remember you, refer others to you and come back for more.
5. Make it useful & Actionable
The best way to make sure that whoever you have in front of you walks away feeling empowered by you is to give them action steps. It doesn’t have to be 5 or 10 steps, 1 will do. Make it simple and immediately actionable.
For instance, I’m going to suggest you take one of these tips and use it in your next conversation or presentation and notice the difference it makes to your impact.
Have fun making your point in a powerful way.
