Coping Skills Can Slow the Aging Process

Working with a Coach is a great way to learn easy coping skills that can change bad habits and slow the aging process.
It is common knowledge among health care providers that stress and anxiety cause our bodies to deteriorate faster and age with greater complication. Imagine your life with less of both that helps you maintain the energy of your youth without special serums or supplements. Managing stress and anxiety is not a complicated process, but rather an act of consistent application of coping skills.
What You Do To Cope Matters
It may not be clear what a coping skill is to you. In that case, consider this a brief lesson in how to find your own coping skills for managing stress and anxiety. Each person finds different “go-to’s” for dealing with the uncomfortable feelings that stress and anxiety produce. Sometimes these are healthy and sometimes they are not. If you resort to medication, recreational drugs, food, or cigarettes, you are artificially feeding your body stimulants that amp you up for better performance.
What Are True Coping Skills
In reality, our bodies are designed to fight stress and anxiety naturally. Stimulation is not bad, but creating the chemicals to achieve the same result as addictive products can be done without the artificial aides. Some examples include things that get our bodies moving, help us relax our muscles, assist in focusing or even emptying the mind, and busying ourselves with pleasurable activities. These become “skills” by the very nature of repetition and intentional practice.
Ways To Identify Your Own Coping Skills
Many people rely on therapists to help them identify coping skills, but a simple search online can result in many ideas for activities or practices that can be used to bring relaxation and peace to your life. Meditation is a practice of being with yourself in a peaceful manner by learning to quiet the mind and simply rest in the moment. This act of being present in the moment should be a goal of any coping skill. Allowing yourself to let go of the worries and circumstances that cause you stress and anxiety will go a long way for restoring that youthful, energetic lifestyle we all covet.
How A Coach Can Keep You Feeling Young
You may be wondering how a coach can help you with coping better. The answer lies in accountability. With a personal coach you can explore ideas for managing your mindset, planning strategic times for using your coping skills, mapping out the coping skills that work for you, and applying yourself consistently to their use. Coping skills is not a piece of knowledge only available to therapists. They are individual practices or activities that help you live more carefree, even if just for a short, restorative moment in your day.
The most important thing to remember is that we all need a partner in our journey. Coaches make the perfect partner because they tailor their approach to enhance your individuality. Simply by knowing someone is going to ask you what you did this week to meet your goals is often incentive enough to truly buckle down and do what you promised yourself you’d do.
