MINDSETS

Mindsets can be described as Fixed, or Growth - Fixed can become Growth and making that Change can bring Positive, Life-altering Results.
What are they exactly? Described as Fixed and Growth, fixed means that the personality, skills and traits of that individual are set. That they were born with them or someone, usually their parents and/or teachers, shaped them that way as children.
A growth mindset means the individual’s personality, skills and traits can be changed. They believe that experience and practice count for a lot more than their genetics. They possess thinking that we start off as a beginner and thru experience and practice we become good at something and that this counts more than their genetics. People with growth mindsets tend to not worry as much about failure as those with fixed. To them, “Success” means that they learned something even if the outcome was not perfect.
If it is possible to change a fixed mindset, one that is more relaxed, then how could that happen? Why wouldn’t everyone?
“Your beliefs become your thoughts, Your thoughts become your words, Your words become your actions, Your actions become your habits, Your habits become your values, Your values become your destiny.” ~Mahatma GandhiTherefore, it seems that a fixed mindset does not have to be your destiny?
It IS possible to change. But how? If these are ingrained, embedded deep in our cellular material, our DNA, then how is it done? Through repatterning – neuroplasticity, the ability of the brain to change and reorganize itself and its function.
You can change your life by building new habits and practices into your daily schedule. This level of commitment and consistency is what will help you break the habit of being the you that you don’t want to be – in a fixed mindset. I know I had to change many habits and ways of being to move into this new level of calm, joy and happiness that I live in.
What are the steps?
1. Think about your goals. Put yourself in your dreams visualize, use your senses – see, smell, taste, feel what you want to be or do. What would you be doing? Seeing? Feeling? Tasting
2. Write it down – anywhere you can. Journal, computer, email – it doesn’t matter, but you MUST write it down.
3. Brainstorm – Find the Resources
4. Plan – Action Steps – Make a Plan. Break it down into baby steps. Research has shown that people who write down their goals are 95% more successful.
5. Accountability – Share it with someone who will help you.
6. Milestones -Track where you are at – what progress have you made?
7. Be Grateful – Celebrate You! …. You did it! And YOU are Awesome!
It seems that with these steps it is possible to change our mindset. Why then would someone not be able to do it?
According to neuroscience principles, our brain likes keeping us in the zone of comfort in which we have been existing and that these patterns are now stored in our cellular memory. That does not mean it is good for us, or that we will continue to thrive following this patterning. It means the brain, the subconscious part, will strive to hold us back against what we are consciously trying to change. Our subconscious strives to keep us ‘safe’ – meaning, keeping things the way they are, maintaining the status quo. This state is not necessarily the healthiest though.
Positive steps need to be repeated for at least 30 days. Set intentions every day for what we want the out outcome to be. Keep visualizing our success. Speak that we are moving forward to a new mindset and that we feel comfortable in becoming the object of our visions.
By changing old habits, we can change our mindsets — change our lives.
