Wonder what does the phrase "Life Purpose" Mean? Ill share with you the meaning behind the phrase and what are the components to realize it.
Life purpose literally means your reason of existence. Meaning, if you were part of a creation process what was the intention of your creation. Once something is created, it will be more effective and alive if it’s being utilized for the purpose of its creation.
To use a metaphor let’s talk about the human legs. What happens for people who don’t use their legs for mobility over a long period of time? The legs most likely become weak, loose their vitality, and their muscle memory would have a hard time coordinating balance. In the contrary, what happens when a person exercises his or her legs on a daily basis, going for 1-hour jogging, applying strength training and going hiking. The legs will become stronger, faster, alive and have more stamina. The reason they benefited so much is they were used for their purpose which is mobility. Not only using them for their purpose benefited the legs themselves but also benefited the whole which they are a part of which in the legs example is the whole body. Every thing in life goes through the same experience weather tools we create or creatures that are part of life. We are all part of a cohesive environment that serves ourselves and the environment itself.
Whether you are aware of it or not you are probably serving the environment around you. The Job you are in is contributing to the organization and its customers. The issue is when your job is not providing the fulfilment that you want. This comes from it not being aligned with your Life purpose. If it is aligned you will feel alive, fulfilled, more disciplined and focused. A career that is aligned with your life purpose will be in integrity of realizing your core values and you will be able to apply its activities with creativity and discipline autonomously.
Rest assured your life purpose is not something that is out of your reach, your current activities, life habits, interests, things you currently think about and things you even argue for give you many clues on what potentially your life purpose can be. Your life purpose will be a manifestation of an important core value for you, It is part of your current struggles or part of what provide you a peek joy experience. Either way, your life purpose will be found within you and it’s not out there. It will move from an intangible place within you to a tangible manifestation in the world. Once your life purpose has been identified it’s time to bring it to the world. And for it to be sustainable, fruitful and successful there are 4 components to consider to choose the method and activity to realize your purpose and this can be in a form of business. Component 1, the activity has to be something at best you are passionate about or you love doing, passion insures consistency, Component 2 The activity needs to be something you are good at or become good at, in other words it utilizes strengths you have, this insures competency. Component 3 it needs to be something you get financially rewarded for as this will insure sustainability. 4th component it needs to be something the world needs which insures demands, contribution and sustainability.
Try to apply the 4 components in your current jobs. Many people could be in the career that fulfil their life purpose already but not have it connected to their higher cause with intention. If you suspect that this could be you, consider answering these questions.
What attracted about being a teacher, engineer or a doctor when you first started?
What higher cause does your Job serve?
What values could you honour by doing your current work?
Does the organization or environment you are working honours your values and higher cause?
And if the organization you are in does not honour these values can you be a catalyst of change to have these values honoured?
If the answer to the last two questions is no then you need to change the organization you are in to honour your life purpose. In the next post Ill share with you how to find your life purpose.
